Carbon Offsetting – More For Your Money with Ultimate Responsible Tourism
08/08/2008
Did you know that every penny donated to our chosen carbon offset scheme goes straight to the tree planting project in India?
There are no deductions whatsoever – unlike some carbon offset providers who can have overheads of up to 50%.
Whilst it is agreed tree planting isn’t the sole solution to climate change, we are proud to be promoting such an innovative scheme, which not only benefits rural communities, but also the environment.
The plan is to plant at least 120,000 trees this year and in each future year. This will be achieved by encouraging and supporting thousands of children and adults to plant trees in their back gardens, schools and on any unused piece of land in their village. The project will grow suitable indigenous saplings in five regional tree nurseries and distribute them to participants in the scheme in the 450 rural villages where they work.
The tree planting scheme is run by Salt of the Earth and Social Change and Development. They have recently produced an information leaflet explaining the project and how you can donate. If you would like leaflets to include in your fundraising packs, please let us know or they can be downloaded from http://www.salt-of-the-earth.org.uk/documents/TreePlanting.pdf
