California Dreaming – Our Latest Bike Ride Has Arrived!
08/08/2008
Cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco has to one of the best finish lines for a biking event. That’s certainly what Jennie and Lisa thought when they completed the recce for our brand new California Bike Ride and they’ve cycled in some pretty cool places.
The ride starts in the mighty Yosemite National Park. Its 1,170 square miles have been shaped over millions of years and it is one of the most awesome places on earth. This is jaw dropping beauty on a big scale, with massive granite peaks and cliffs, roaring waterfalls, towering forests and sparkling lakes.
Over six days we cover 410km, passing through old gold rush towns, skirting the edge of California wine country and spending our nights camping in the wilderness. There are some tough climbs too as we conquer the lower foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Nearing San Francisco we join the Pacific Highway Road, following the rugged coastline and negotiating the steep, hairpin bends.
The iconic, art deco Golden Gate Bridge stands guard at the entrance to San Francisco Bay and there are fantastic views of the Bay and the City as we approach. Excitement mounts as the finish line approaches and crossing the bridge itself is a fitting end to this most stunning challenge. What a ride!
This event lasts just eight days and is best run in September-October time. Please contact us for further information on the itinerary and costs.
