The Julian Alps are named after Julius Caesar, who founded the municipium of Cividale del Friuli at the foot of the mountains. The Alps are a relatively undiscovered, undeveloped gem. Sharp limestone summits, densely wooded valley bottoms and beautiful emerald rivers that tumble through rocky gorges.

The varied flora and fauna rightly enjoy considerable fame. Natural riches, plentiful water sources and a favourable climate created conditions for early settlement in this wonderful corner of Europe. The Julian Alps are one of the world's treasures - a challenge to every climber and a source of pleasure for every traveller.
