Jordan, Desert Trek

The Kingdom of Jordan conjures up images of Bible stories, lost cities, Lawrence of Arabia, and more recently Indiana Jones!

Our trek begins in the famous red rose city of Petra, the ancient city hewn from a towering sandstone rock wall and capital of the Nabataeans, a third century BC Arab dynasty. Set in a deep canyon and accessible only by a narrow cleft in the rock, it is almost impossible to overrate Petra – the silent, unchanged, colossal ruins are a visual feast. Immerse yourself in the splendour of the famous Al Khazneh (the Treasury), soaring temples, royal tombs, amphitheatre, monumental staircases and paved streets of this astonishing city.

Hiking on the very edge of the Great Rift Valley, we’ll cross magnificent escarpments, gorges and canyons as we spend the next two days trekking in the desert, following ancient hunter trails and Nabataean caravan roads. Nights will be spent in Bedouin camps, watching the sunset over vivid sandstone rocks and star gazing into the evening.
