Latin American Foundation for the Future
Latin American Foundation for the Future is dedicated to helping young and vulnerable people who have been forgotten and abandoned by family or society, such as street children.
We offer grants and assistance to grass-roots projects - working at local level to achieve maximum impact. We only support projects that aim to be self sustaining, with the aim of creating independence from outside help not dependence on it.
Our holistic, integrated approach makes sure that projects address both the long and short term causes driving children to live and work on the streets.
Our projects:
• Meet basic needs – for food, water, safety, shelter, sanitation and medical supplies
• Provide access to education and training for poor and vulnerable children and young adults
• Provide grants to help work and income-generating projects achieve sustainability and independence
Tackling both the long and short terms issues associated with poverty and inequality means we are helping to:
• Overcome the challenges forcing children onto the streets in the first place
• Break the self-perpetuating cycle of poverty through providing access to education and training for those who need it most
• Enable grass-roots organisations to become self-sufficient and financially independent, allowing them to focus on the future health, welfare, prospects and happiness of those in their care
Recent examples of our support for street children's shelters and refuges in Peru are:
• The construction of a bread oven to provide income-generation opportunities
• The installation of a water tank to ensure clean water for one children’s home
• Providing grant funding for academic purchases (such as uniforms, school books, school registration) to ensure every child in the care of one shelter can attend school
• Providing soup kitchen materials so that one street kid shelter can fully cater to the increasing demand
As LAFF is a small charity run by a dedicated team of volunteers, over 90% of our voluntary income can go directly where it is most needed – to fund our overseas projects.
We monitor the projects we support carefully so that we know that every penny goes to help those who will really benefit.
In Latin America, millions of children are living on the streets, extremely vulnerable to the dangers of street life. Easy targets for those who profit from the street they become victims of a downward spiral of poverty they are trying to escape – crime, drugs and prostitution become their only means of survival. These children are voiceless and powerless to change their own destiny.
But we can help - this can change.
Through meeting their basic needs, ensuring safety and shelter then offering education, training and care, we can give these children the tools they need to break the poverty cycle on their own.
LAFF exists to offer children like these the hope of a better future. With your support we can give more Latin American street children a chance to build a better life for themselves.
