Morocco, Sahara Weekend Trek Charity Challenge

The Sahara is the largest desert in the world by a huge margin, stretching from the Atlantic coast of Mauritania to the Red sea coast of Egypt.

Its landscape varies from a stony flat expanse to perfect wind blown sand dunes, broken only by the occasional oasis. The feeling of space and of solitude is awesome.

This stunning weekend challenge takes us to the Eastern side of Morocco near the Algerian border. Our journey begins in Ouarzazate, created by the French in 1928 as a garrison and regional administration centre and now a gateway to the Draa valley and the Sahara. From Ouazazate we transfer south-east passing the magical Draa Valley, a long ribbon of technicoloured palmeraies (crammed with date palms, olive, almonds groves and citrus trees), Kasbahs and Berber villages.

After the luxurious palm groves of the Tafilalet oases, the blowing Sahara winds begin to shape the most beautiful sand dunes of Morocco. Our weekend trek into the Sahara starts in the north of Erg Chebbi, where we meet our camels and guides.

Following the steady rhythm of our camel caravan, we will discover the ergs (sand dunes) of Merzouga, which offer some stunning colour changes. Nights will be spent under canvas, beneath a star filled desert sky.

This really is a true desert adventure and the Moroccan Sahara at its best.


<b>Itinerary</b>
Day 1 Fly London - Er-Rachidia, Morocco. Ovenight hotel
Day 2 Transfer to Erg Chebbi. 2 hrs trekking to Bouighd Trek camp.
Day 3 7hrs trek Bouighd camp - Erg Chebbi Dune (170m!) – Hassi Merdani camp.
Day 4 3hrs trek Hassi Merdani camp – Merzouga. Transfer to Ouarzazate. Gala dinner and overnight hotel.
Day 5 Fly Ouarzazate - London
