This stunning challenge combines trekking in the two most exciting Natural Reserves in the Balkan Mountains Kozyata Stena and Severen Dzhendem, as well as a visit to Troyan Monastery. We climb Mt. Botev - the highest peak of the Balkan Mountains (2,376m) and enjoy the imposing view of the low-lying mountain of Sredna Gora and the fertile Thracian Valley. After descending the extremely steep southern slope of the Balkan ("Tarzan's walkway") we visit the little town of Kalofer before transferring to the historical city of Plovdiv to celebrate our achievements with a traditional folklore evening. Plovdiv was a place of major demonstrations of the democratic forces in the country when communism ended on November 10, 1989. Some people refer to the city as "the blue (democratic) capital of Bulgaria”. Typical Itinerary Summary Day-Description-Accommodation Day 1: Depart London for Sofia.
