Once a British Protectorate, the states of Sarawak and Sabah on the Islands of Borneo now form what is known as eastern Malaysia. The lush tropical paradises are South-East Asia at it's most exotic and untouched, with vast area of virgin forest and unspoilt coastline awaiting discovery.
This stunning challenge starts with one days exhilarating white-water rafting down the Padas River. You will then trek for 3-days in the Crocker Range, which forms the backbone to Sabah. It is the largest totally protected area in Sabah, with some of the last remaining areas of West Coast hill dipterocarp forest.
This dense jungle is home to thousands of endemic species and will prove not only a tough trek, but also a stunning experience as you trek through changing vegetation from montane forest, low level forest, passing rushing streams, rivers and isolated villages.
This breathtaking adventure culminates in the highlight of ascending Mt Kinabalu at 4,101metres (13,455ft), the highest mountain in South-East Asia. One of the biggest attractions of Kinabalu is the range of exotic plants.
As you ascend the mountain the climate changes and so do the plants. Bamboo, mosses, orchids, rotans, lichens and pitcher plants are in profusion. The insect life is one of the most enthralling ever known and an immensely rich variety of bird and animal species are encountered.
Kinabalu has been described as "the most wonderful mountain in the world". No mountain exceeds Kinabalu in its sheer strength and stark simplicity. Lacking foothills it appears to shoot straight up into the sky. It's jagged granite peaks floating above the clouds.
A tough and exhilarating challenge from start to finish!
