Iceland rests on the edge of the arctic circle and sits atop one of the world’s most volcanically active hotspots. Discover the stunning scenery of Iceland on this fantastic weekend trekking challenge in the western mountain region of Borgarfjörður. Our trek takes us from lush green pastures to the breathtaking mountain range belonging to the Snæfellsnes peninsula at 600-900m high. Evenings will be spent camping out on the banks of two stunning lakes, full of trout and artic char. Our trek ends in the Hnappadalur valley on the peninsula, close to the 2600 year old and very beautiful volcanic craters of Rauðamelskúla. This is a special ‘old classic’ trek for Icelanders, but little known by foreigners, so we will feel very priveledged! Our final night is spent celebrating our acheivements, Icelandic style in Reykjavík! Typical Itinerary Summary Day-Description-Accommodation Day 1: Arrive Reykjavík, transfer to Borgarfjörður region. Overnight camp. Day 2: Trek 6-7hrs passing the craters of Grábrókargígar, Hreðavatn and Vikravatn Lake. Overnight camp. Day 3: Trek 8hrs Langavatn - Hítarvatn Lake. Overnight camp. Day 4: Trek 5hrs.
